Ep 22: If I had a nickel for every "NO"

If I had a nickel for every "NO" I've received....I think I would be a millionaire. Y'all the struggle is real, and raw. I share it all. My career hasn't been perfect and doors have been slammed in my face, so let's talk about it! You may relate to these stories of tragedy and triumph.

What do we talk about:

  • I've heard no a million times.
  • I've been told no when...
    • I asked for a promotion.
    • Applied for roles I really wanted, ones I was told to apply for!
    • When I asked for raises and promotions for my teams.
    • I was told I couldn't hire someone because my team was "too successful" already.
    • I was told no at least 3 times when trying to get my first job.
    • I was told not to speak in a meeting, by my male boss. I share the story and the ending that turned him red and concluded with accolades for me. (Love this story.)
  • Don't ever forget: The valleys are where you learn and prosper. You may not see the right next step today, but keep moving.
  • When we become still, we become stagnant.
  • The only failure you could make today is stopping altogether. If you stop, you fail. If you try you succeed, your efforts will* lead to the right YES, but you have to keep trying to find it. It will be worth your efforts.
  • Interviewing is like dating - Stop chasing after employers that aren't chasing after you. If they say "No" it's their loss, not yours.
  • I share a personal story of motherhood and wish Happy Mothers Day to you and yours!
